Corsetry Class

April 13, 2012

As promised, pictures of the corset I made in my short course class.

We all based our corsets on a basic block from I think 19th century corset, and adjusted it to our mesurements. Consisting of two layers, one in twill and one in my chosen fabric, a bamboo satin. The dummy is a bit small, making it look a tad wobbly (why would a dummy need a corset anyway,)  but I won’t be able to have it one a person for a photoshoot anytime soon unfortunately.

I need to be making another one over the summer so I don’t forget how we did it, practice makes perfect, haha. If I get the time I want to add some beading on the front, thought I’m always one for simplicity. Making a corset is patience, there is alot of hand stitching on this. However I can’t express how happy I am to have done this and finally learnt how to make one, a  long time goal achieved!

Dressed in white

April 8, 2011

I thought I’d make a post about wedding designs! I suddenly had so many ideas about themes and dress designs that I wanted to make a few collages. Thought I got a little overwelmed when I started to look for pictures, because there where so many! Internet is drowing in wedding themed blogs, wedding photograpers and so and and so forth, but I found some beautiful pictures no less, those that I managed to pick from the crowd.  There’s just so many possibilities,  if I get married I’ll never be able to decide anything!

When I was little I loved everything about weddings, (yes I was a girly girl, still is.) I even wanted to become a wedding dress designer and wedding planner.I still think weddings are beautiful, but I don’t want to make it for a living. xD

When I have the chance I watch the show Say Yes to the Dress, i love that show! So many crazy brides buying overly expensive dresses that they are going to wear for a couple of hours, dresses that costs half of my student loan. oO

Through the show I discovered a designer I think make the loveliest dresses, Pnina Tornai, a wonderful example seen below.

Almost everybody picks strap/sleeveless dresses. I never wear anything withouth sleeves, so why would I have a wedding dress withouth, however dresses with sleeves that looks nice and not too frumpy can be hard to find. Found a  wonderful example by Justin Alexander, inspired by Grace Kelley’s wedding dress from 1956.

Just a fun example from the latest Harry Potter movie, Fleur Delacour’s Alexander Mcqueen inspired dress by Jany Temine. Some says it’s theft, some says it’s an inspired homage. I certainly hope it’s inspired,  the similarities are ridiculous if not. xD

Anywho, my themes! I wanted to make so many more themes, but yeah, overwelming.

The 1st theme is a forest theme, with lanterns and a  vintage looking dress!

2nd theme Splash of colour. I love the idea of having a simple white dress and one brighly coloured or unusual element!

Astronauts

September 5, 2010

I promised to show the colour scetches I made back in March, of the “blue collection,” so here they are. ^^

Since I’m so easily dragged into this magical worlds. With Blue collection, I suddenly had an entire universe on my hands, a whole book of images giving the feeling and colours of what I wanted these clothes to represent.

I took inspirations from the world I created, and translated it suddle into lines, shapes, patterns, colors, texture, garments people in this world would have worn etc. It was great fun. But I should not always use such long time on the inspiration, takes forever. xD

Please journey well into the world “Blue”.

I would love to hear what stores you guys can come up with looking at the collage. : )
